Saying "goodbye" to the Net

QUOTE:
"If the bill passes the Senate and is signed by the President (of the USA), you can kiss the Net you know "goodbye." Farewell, open networks and open standards. Soon every packet will be subject to inspection and surcharges based on what it carries and who sent it or where it is going.

"The compromise language would have guaranteed that all traffic sent over carrier backbones would be treated equally, regardless of its source or destination. Carriers will be free to target especially profitable traffic for surcharges. "

Now be reasonable. In another short generation, say when the kiddies of today are the middle-agers of tomorrow, the internet will be ruled by the Chinese and Indonesian and Indian populations, who will form the largest individual user base collectively. WHO CARES ABOUT USA LEGISLATION AFFECTING TODAY'S INTERNET ?!

Telcomms conglomerates had really better tune in to this future, if they are talking infrastructure investment over a timeframe of one generation.

Morecambe and Wise

http://www.morecambeandwise.co.uk/

Arguably the best of 20th C British mass media comedy, featuring heterosexual male comedic team (which sometimes wanders into cross-dressed territory, but you'll always know it's for laughs there).

Some sexist mid-20th C content, but their humour is a riot. Witty and intelligent, sometimes plain silly.

Genuine Microsoft Software

I had a repeated failed OS update.
For security reasons, I won't say which one.
I'm pretty darn certain my OS is genuine.

So, I went to the official User Group and looked through other users' problems - plenty of similar complaints.
Check this for the user group
The solution was recommended by an official from the OS company:
Executable file HERE - beware of clicking
Anyway, I prefer not to apply the official patch.

I check my add-remove programs listing. and I see that the update was actually successfully installed some weeks ago !
Someone in the official User Group recommended removing the update, then redoing it.

There is also a place to authenicate the genuineness of one's OS:
HERE
The diagnostic webapge will not work if you use Mozilla Firefox web browser.
Basically, it will tell you that if your browser doesn't have the settings required, there are security settings on Internet Explorer which you need to change if you run this diagnostic. The ActiveX diagnostic will lead you to a webpage to show you haw to make those changes, if you want to.
Genuine Microsoft Software
It's just plain annoying and fucked up.

U.S. pressures Japan to resume preparation for triangular mergers by '07

Japan next May will introduce the M&A tactic known as a triangular merger, which allows a Japanese subsidiary of a foreign company to take over a Japanese firm by swapping some of the parent's stock for all or a sizable portion of the target's shares, without using any cash to fund the acquisition.
