Few female execs in bureaucracy
Kyodo News
The ratio of women among executive government officials was only 1.7 percent as of January 2005, the National Personnel Authority said Monday.

The government says it is trying to raise the figure to 30 percent by 2020. To do so, more woman have to be hired, but the ratio of women among newly employed fast-track bureaucrats is only 21.1 percent, the authority said.

"We will urge ministries and agencies to recruit more women while making efforts to raise interest among female students in working for governmental organizations by holding seminars and other ways," an official said.
